Developing Yours Child's Imagination
“Imagination is everything, it is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” Albert Einstein
Helping spark your child’s imagination and enhancing their creativity is one of the major goals of the DPIE After School program which is beginning its fourth year of operation. This Fall, DPIE is offering more than 90 courses and enrollment in the program is now open to all families in the DUSD. Just click here and select your child’s school to see the list of courses available.
New Course Offerings
Our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Music) course offerings continue to grow with new vendor classes and we have great teachers in Dublin teaching their passions for us this Fall. As a result, we have added several new courses, these include:
- Introduction to Cartooning (Ms. Jennifer de Oliviera) - Dublin Elementary
- Beginning Piano (Ms. Aren Lim) - Dublin Elementary
- Contemporary Dance - most elementary schools
- Forces of Nature (Lego based) - all elementary schools
- Coyote Fitness (Mr. Michael Shannon) - Green Elementary
- American Sign Language (Ms. Lorrin Harris) - Cottonwood Creek
- Introduction to World Languages & Cultures, Ms. Lorrin Harris, Cottonwood Creek
- Color Your Dreams with Art (Ms. Christine Miller) - Amador Elementary
Asked about her Beginning Piano course, 5th grade Dublin Elementary teacher Ms. Aren Lim said,
“I love playing the piano! I grew up listening to music from such great musicals like The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady and I see music’s power to bring people together through play and creativity. My hope is to help students to appreciate piano and to see music through a different lens.”
A Parent’s Perspective
“DPIE classes are a great opportunity for kids to explore other interests while making it super convenient for parents, too! They're right after school and taught by excellent teachers. You really can't find a better arrangement!” Dublin Elementary parent, Kimberly Castillo, whose four children have enrolled in multiple classes each session for the last three years.
Expanding to Middle Schools
The After School Program will introduce several course offerings for students in grades 6 – 8 at Cottonwood Creek this Fall for the first time!
“It is DPIE Board’s goal to begin offering after school courses at all middle schools in the district in the near future. We want kids to have the opportunity to explore their interests outside of the regular classroom at all elementary and middle schools that will support them.” Sobia Qureshi, DPIE Board President.
More than 200 Dublin students have already enrolled in the DPIE After School Program for this Fall, so if you want to make sure your child gets into the class of their choice, enroll now before classes fill.
As a non-profit, DPIE donates funds back to each school and it’s PFC with donations totalling $27,000 for the year and total donations to all Dublin elementary schools in the first three years to $50,000.
Financial aid is available to families on the school district’s Free & Reduced Price Lunch Program. To learn more about financial aid, contact the DPIE office.
