Actors’ Workshop!

Course Description: It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Club - The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.

BollyWood Dance Class for Kids

Course Description: A fun-filled introduction to beginner & intermediate Bollywood dance for kids. Instruction includes foundational movements, fundamental techniques, hand gestures, rhythmic patterns & communicative expressions.  Students will learn dance routines choreographed to snippets of popular Bollywood songs as well as some Koliwood and Tollywood songs from the South Indian cinema. The classes will also strengthen individual coordination and rhythmic skills through various exercises and drills.
Additionally, students will develop a vocabulary of common Bollywood dance moves that they can string together to create their own unique dance. This class will provide exposure to kids on many different dance styles as Bollywood has become a melting pot of many popular traditional and western dance styles.

Chess Academy for Kids

Course Description: Learn chess with Pacific Chess Academy!  This program is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to overcome obstacles, think strategically, and stay focused. Specifically designed for young players with various levels (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced), the course offers video lessons, easy-to-follow instructions, individual recommendations, and preparation to chess tournaments. The use of the modern technology (projectors, iPad, teaching software) makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! The class is offered to grades 1-5. All necessary equipment (boards and pieces, clocks, demo tools) provided. Participants receive certificates and trophies at the end of the school year.

Course Description:  In this mixed media art class we will study 9 new artists and then create a work of art inspired from the artist’s style.  We will work with clay, ceramics, glass, oil pastel, paper, collage and more. Some of the artists/projects are: Calders paper stabile, Claude Monet Clay Water Lillies, Roy Lichtenstein marker and paint Pop Art, Magritte Mixed Media Collage, Matisse Paper Cutouts, Joseph Albers Fused Glass Shapes, Ted Harrison Oil Pastel Northern Landscape. (projects and artists subject to change, Famous Artists I is not a requirement for Famous Artists II, we will just be exploring new artists).

Course Description:  For the budding scientist, engineer, astrobiologist, astronaut or explorer in your family this course is right choice for them. Inspired by NASA & Star WarsTM, this class is packed full of models that will make your imagination blast off!  Each week future astronauts will learn about the real-life space exploration and build models related to the NASA space program. The Space Adventures class will spark your child’s imagination about the world out there.
Space is often called the last frontier, and has inspired scientists, star-gazers and adventurers for generation. Join us on a Mission 2 Space! Discover incredible structures like the launch complex 39 at the Kennedy Center, travel the surface of the moon on a lunar rover, visit the international space station and do it all using Lego Bricks.  All you need to bring for this adventure is your imagination.

Course Description: A fun experience for all voices! All levels of singing experience welcomed. Come learn and have fun using your voice and singing with a group. Learn valuable sight singing and musician skills. We will do group activities to help us get to know each other and feel comfortable with singing with other people. We will be learning how to sing in Canon (aka. Rounds), expand our use of Solfege, warm up our voices, and sing different fun repertoire.  In our last class together, we will hold a mini concert for parents to see all the hard work the students have been doing! Let's work together to make some fabulous music!

Video Game Design & Coding

Course Description: Prepare for the world of technology and learn the secret language of computers! Coders will discover how computers think through fun interactive games and basic computer coding. After mastering the processing style of a computer, coders will learn to use Scratch, a block-based tool developed at MIT. Use Scratch to make engaging projects with endless possibilities, in a mixture of games and stories. Choose your favorite theme, from Luke in Star Wars to the voyager Moana! Students will also take time to step away from the screen and engage in “unplugged” activities like Robot Artist or Paper Plane Coding to deepen their computational thinking skills. Finally, coders also get to take part in 3D game design! Learn the complex methods used to take your game design to the next dimension!"

Yoga for Kids- The Movement of Imagination

Instructor:        Shay Nelson (she has been practicing yoga for over ten years and been a Yoga instructor at Downtown Yoga in Pleasanton and works with Monkey Bear Yoga of Dublin. She is a firm believer of creative play and exploration through body movement and has been trained in modern dance and ballet).

Course Description: Jump like a frog!  Salute the sun. Root into the earth as a tree and sit like a lotus petal floating in a calm pool of water. Monkey Bear Yoga brings story-telling to the practice of Yoga for Kids. Through imagination, children are engaged and excited to learn yoga. Yoga for Kids is a fun-filled journey to the self. Through mindful movement, breathing techniques and imaginative play, children connect with their authentic selves.
We live in a high speed, fast paced environment that can be taxing to our spirit and sense of self. Children experience stress and anxiety just as adults do. Yoga fosters the whole child. Children will develop strength and flexibility in their bodies and minds through yoga poses and partner exercises. They will learn breathing techniques to soothe anxiety, focus better, and practice patience. Yoga for Kids give children the tools to live a balanced, peaceful life.
