Exploring Great Artists

Instructor: Ms. Julie Coching, Owner/Instructor from Café Art
Grade Level: 2 - 5
Day/Dates: Monday - January 8, 22, 29 | February 5, 12, 26 | March 5, 12 (8 Class Sessions/10 Class Hours)
Time: 2:05 - 3:20 pm (each class is 75 minutes long)

Course Description: In this Art class we will explore mixed media. The students will paint a ceramic piece, create with clay, and we will also explore some other art and craft techniques such as art collage, drawing, coloring and painting. Students will learn about a different famous artist each week and have the opportunity to create his or her own work in the style of the selected artists such as Van Gogh's Starry night in glass, Georgia O'Keefe styled clay flower, Monet pastel drawing, Picasso clay mask, Mondrian collage, Andy Warhol pop art tiles and many more. The kids will take home a number of Art papers as well as a Ceramic piece, Glass and Clay project.

Course Description: Exciting explorations, delightful discoveries and wild wonders await your child in this hands-on, minds-on class. The project-based format will encourage students to make connections with math, science and art experiences through weekly hands-on activities. Students will have the opportunity to work on concepts such as Balance, Cause & Effect, Center of Mass, Stable Equilibrium and more! Students will even get to take some of their projects home to share with their families. Each day will also include time to build, engineer, and create with imaginations in our makerspace. These projects will be on display for our last class.

Public Speaking & Debate Combo Level

Course Description: This combination class covering Public Speaking and Debate teaches students to manage stage anxiety, present speeches with confidence, and connect with their audience through effective body language. They become confident speakers, avid writers and creative thinkers. In the debate portion of the module, they learn how to make strong arguments backed by reasoning and evidence. They also develop stronger critical reasoning skills. Students debate on a variety of fun, age-appropriate topics in various formats. Parents attend the last class of the session to see their child in action and every child is given Ribbons at the end of the session to mark their achievements.

Course Description: It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Class, The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a free workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.
