Course Description: In this fun and educational art class, the kids will use a slab roller to hand-create a set of circle or square clay coasters. We will talk about clay, ceramics, and the process of firing the art. We will study the color wheel and talk about primary colors, secondary colors, complementary colors and look at which color combinations look good together and why. The kids will then choose a color palette for their coaster sets. Each week they will paint their hand-made coaster learning a new painting technique. We will discuss the history of the technique or the tools used to create the technique. The kids will write and draw in a “Color Theory and Technique journal" that they will bind into a book at the end of the session. The kids will go home with a color-themed set of tile coasters and their hand-bound color book.
