Art Around the World

Grade Level: 1-4
Dates: Mondays, March 20 – May 22, 2:10 – 3:10 p.m.
(9 instructional days: March 20, 27, April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8 15, 22)

Course Description: In this Art class we will explore mixed media. The students will paint a ceramic piece, create with clay, and we will also explore some other art and craft techniques such as origami, art collage, 3D creations, drawing, coloring and painting. We will explore and discuss different kinds of art from around the World, then make a project. The kids will take home a number of Art papers as well as a Ceramic piece and Clay project.

The Science of Construction & Engineering

Grade Levels: 3 – 5
Dates: Tuesdays, March 21 – May 23,  2:10 – 3:10 p.m.
(9 instructional days: March 21, 28, April 11, 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23)

Course Description: Come learn science through the lens of engineering.  We will be using the Next Generation Science Standards to explore and experiment with hands on activities and building.  During these classes we will be building, testing what we build, and then improving on it to make the most efficient vehicles. Students will have the opportunity to work with bottle rockets, paper structures, toy parachutes, catapults, tiny robots, and slingshot rockets. Come join the fun.

Dates: Thursdays, March 23 – May 25,  3:10 – 4:10 p.m.
(8 instructional days: March 23, 30, April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 25)

Course Description: In this class students grades 3 - 5 will have the opportunity to produce visual projects utilizing green screen technology. Students will use props as well as their own live action skills to create visual projects, art for screencasts, and short films. Content for projects will be student driven and teacher facilitated. Students will be able to save their projects in a digital portfolio to share with their families and friends.
