Actors’ Workshop!

Course Description: It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Club’s The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a free workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.
* Since Wednesdays are collaboration days, the after school class will either start at 2:05pm or 3:05pm depending on what time students are dismissed from school.

BollyWood Dance Class for Kids

Course Description: A fun-filled introduction to beginner & intermediate Bollywood dance for kids. Instruction includes foundational movements, fundamental techniques, hand gestures, rhythmic patterns & communicative expressions.  Students will learn dance routines choreographed to snippets of popular Bollywood songs as well as some Koliwood and Tollywood songs from the South Indian cinema. The classes will also strengthen individual coordination and rhythmic skills through various exercises and drills.
Additionally, students will develop a vocabulary of common Bollywood dance moves that they can string together to create their own unique dance. This class will provide exposure to kids on many different dance styles as Bollywood has become a melting pot of many popular traditional and western dance styles.

Course Description: Learn chess with Pacific Chess Academy!  This program is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to overcome obstacles, think strategically, and stay focused. Specifically designed for young players with various levels (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced), the course offers video lessons, easy-to-follow instructions, individual recommendations, and preparation to chess tournaments. The use of the modern technology (projectors, iPad, teaching software) makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! The class is offered to grades K to 2. All necessary equipment (boards and pieces, clocks, demo tools) provided. Participants receive certificates and trophies at the end of the session. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a Chess Champion, this class is for students at all ability levels.

Course Description:  Does your child love to write and use their imagination to come up with creative stories? Then this is the class for them! Through several different writing activities, we will explore possible ways to think outside of the box and get truly original ideas on paper! We'll experiment with character and plot development in ways that are unique and new, from Painted Paper Stories to Squiggle Stories to What If/Prediction Stories and so much more! I can't wait to see what we come up with! This course is constantly changing, so whether your child has taken it before or is a new attendee, they are welcome to join in on the fun for a new and unique experience each time!

Course Description: Are you ready for the Adventure of a lifetime?  Put on your hiking boots and camouflage...you’re about to enter Jurassic Brick Land!  Using Lego Bricks, students will build a world that comes to life with a gentle Brontosaurus, a ferocious Velociraptors, terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex and more. We’ll learn about amazing dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period as well as other prehistoric animals that once roamed the earth and swam the seas millions of years ago. Use your building skills and use the specialized kits to build and learn about these extinct creatures from the Jurassic Park era.

Course Description: Every child can be an artist but sometimes we need a starting point and the opportunity to grow! This fun and dynamic course allows your child to hone in on their artistic abilities and learn how to draw and create their own masterpieces. All they have to do is follow step-by-step directions, add some oil pastel, watercolor, and BOOM! This course allows your child to practice their ability to follow one and two step directions, work on their fine motor development, and have fun in the process.

Course Description: Prepare for the world of technology and learn the secret language of computers! Coders will discover how computers think through fun interactive games and basic computer coding. After mastering the processing style of a computer, coders will learn to use Scratch, a block-based tool developed at MIT. Use Scratch to make engaging projects with endless possibilities, in a mixture of games and stories. Choose your favorite theme, from Luke in Star Wars to the voyager Moana! Students will also take time to step away from the screen and engage in “unplugged” activities like Robot Artist or Paper Plane Coding to deepen their computational thinking skills. Finally, coders also get to take part in 3D game design! Learn the complex methods used to take your game design to the next dimension!"

Course Description:  In today’s world, written communication is integrated in every aspect of our lives and in every field of endeavor. You see it in language arts, response to literature, math, science, and art. Over the 2018 - 19 Fall, Winter & Spring After School sessions, I will break down writing based on specific subject areas. The Fall session will be dedicated to writing through literature. Students will be reading short stories, learn how to respond to literature based on point of view, narrative, theme and main idea writing activities. We will also practice editing our work and the work of others. This course will help develop the author in your child as we will use mini lessons each week, to enhance student writing skills.
The ultimate goals for students participating in this class will be:

  1.     Engage in learning activities to give positive, confidence-building with writing.
  2.     Develop strong grammatical skills.
  3.     Utilize technology to self-publish their works.
  4.     Become equipped with the tools to organize their ideas.
  5.     Learn how to hook readers with a strong introduction.
  6.     Paint pictures with well-chosen words.
