Amazing Amazon Adventure!

Grade Level: K – 2
Dates: Thursdays, March 16 – May 25, 3:10 – 4:10 p.m.

Course Description: Calling all explorers! Let's adventure through the largest rain forest in the world--the Amazon! This beautiful jungle habitat is full of amazing and fascinating creatures such as leaf cutter ants, red-eyed tree frogs, emerald tree boas, iguanas, howler monkeys, toucans, sloths, jaguars, macaws, blue morpho butterflies and piranhas...OH MY! Grab your binoculars, your adventure cap, and let's learn about this far off, beautiful place and the fascinating creatures that inhabit it. Students will take away a "Rain Forest Adventure Book" full of facts and a craft or art piece with each animal they learned about! It will be a jungle of fun!

The Art Of Imagination & Creativity

Course Description:  Calling all creative and imaginative minds! Is your child yearning for an outlet to express their artistic side?! This class will be a great place for them to do just that. Each week we will do a different type of art and explore the different mediums within art. If water color, oil pastels, origami, collage, and drawing ring a bell in your child's interest, then join us for a fun and productive time. Let's expand their creative portfolios!

Course Description:  Got rocks? Does your child have an endless collection of rocks with no explanation of what they are? Come join Ms. Hollingsworth and become a Rock Science Wiz via STEAM. This science course will take you on a journey inside our GRANITE PLANET while we discover rock classification, volcanic eruptions, fossils, minerals, and much more!

Creative Writing "Writopia"

Grade Level: 3 - 5

Course Description: We all know writing is an integral part of all subject matters in education. Being able to express yourself through writing and articulate the subject matter has now become one of the critical means to success. This course will engage those skills where your child will develop into an author. Each week we will cover a mini lesson, each lesson will build into ultimately publishing a book. At the end of the 9 sessions your child will come home with a complete book based on a subject of their choosing. Participants will:
1. Engage in learning activities that give them positive experience and builds confidence in their own writing
2. Utilize technology to self-publish their written works
3. Become equipped with the tools to organize their ideas
4. Learn to "hook" readers with a strong introduction
5. Use words to paint pictures in their readers minds

 Computer Science Fundamentals and Coding

Grade Level: 3-5
Dates: Fridays, March 24 – May 26, 3:10 – 4:10 p.m.
(9 instructional days: March 24, 31, April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26)

Course Description: This coding class will blend online step by step lessons in coding and computer science with fun, hands-on, "unplugged" activities. With an emphasis on developing computational thinking, we"ll learn about algorithms, debugging, loops, conditionals, binary coding & digital citizenship. Working individually, in pairs and in teams, students will be introduced to coding using a block-based online coding program. Problem solving, creativity, persistence and teamwork will be emphasized.
