Creative Writing "Writopia"

Course Description: We all know writing is an integral part of all subject matters in education. Being able to express yourself through writing and articulate the subject matter has now become one of the critical means to success. This course will engage those skills where your child will develop into an author. Each week we will cover a mini lesson, each lesson will build into ultimately publishing a book. At the end of the 9 sessions your child will come home with a complete book based on a subject of their choosing.
Goals for creative writing class:
Participants will:
1. Engage in learning activities that give them positive, confidence-building with writing;
2. Develop storytelling skills;
3. Utilize technology to self-publish their works;
4. Become equipped with the tools to organize his or her ideas;
5. Learn how to hook readers with a strong introduction; and
6. Paint pictures with well-chosen words.

Inventor’s Workshop & Electricity

Course Description: Join Ms. Miller's (formerly Ms. Hollingsworth) interactive inventions course and you will discover “why” and "how" common electrical components work in your home. Come invent and create memories using STEAM while building inventions such as a spinning motor, a telegraph, or a light flashing generator. The creations are mind blowing!

Sustainability for a Greener Planet

Course Description: In this course, students will learn about Life Science through exploration and interactive games. Students will use investigation skills as they read and research the Life Science standards. They will then participate in a variety of activities in order to help them further explore and investigate Science through interaction and activities.

Students will participate in P.E. games, interviews, charades, art, and a variety of other interactive activities. Students will develop knowledge and awareness of their environment and the many living things around them. They will learn to investigate and make informed decisions in order to have a positive impact on their environment, while having fun in the learning process. They will use the engineering model to design, create and investigate throughout their learning. Course Description: Calling all paleontologists! Let's time travel back to the Mesozoic and Cretaceous Era and learn all about the giant reptiles that roamed the earth for 165 million years. We will explore the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Pterodactyl, Stegosaurus, and more! I promise it won't be a DINO-SNORE!

Students enrolled in the EDCC program at Amador will be picked up and dropped back off by Ms. McCrory at the beginning and end of class.

This fun and dynamic course allows your child to hone in on their artistic abilities and learn how to draw and create their own masterpieces. All they have to do is follow step-by-step directions. We will be sketching first and then move to applying different mediums such as watercolor and oil pastels. This course allows your child to practice their ability to follow one and two step directions, work on their fine motor development, and have fun in the process. Insider Tip: We will be drawing monkeys, giraffes, sea turtles, self-portraits, and more! Some fridge worthy art will be coming your way!

Students enrolled in the EDCC program at Amador will be picked up and dropped back off by Ms. McCrory at the beginning and end of class.

Let’s Be Creative with Sewing

Course Description: How would you like to learn to sew? Students will turn a drawing into a hand sewn pillow which they will be able to keep. They will embellish the pillow with colorful stitches while learning the basics of hand sewing. Learning the basics could help as a starting off point to eventually making your own clothes and a skill you can utilize in making gifts. Why not learn something new and creative. Class limited to 10 students.

Chess Academy for Kids

Course Description: Learn chess with Pacific Chess Academy! This program is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to overcome obstacles, think strategically, and stay focused. Specifically designed for young players with various levels (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced), the course offers video lessons, easy-to-follow instructions, individual recommendations, and preparation to chess tournaments. The use of the modern technology (projectors, iPad, teaching software) makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! The class is offered to students in grades 1-5. All necessary equipment (boards & pieces, clocks, demo tools) provided. Participants receive certificates and trophies at the end of the school year.
