We are offering a dynamic selection of courses available from Kindergarten through to 5th Grade.  Below is the list of courses we are offering at Amador Elementary.

Courses are offered 1 day per week up to 10 weeks. 10 hours of tuition.

Tuition - $189 - $210 per course.  

Each class that moves forward will generate contributions to the School, the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) and to the Student Council.

Actors' Workshop!

It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Club’s The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a free workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.

Art Around the World 2

In this multi-media class, the kids will create their own artistic passport as they travel to a different country each week and explore the interesting variety of artistic styles developed in their country of origin.  Students will learn about an art form and then create a unique piece of personal art using that art form. They will work with a variety of art media such as paper, clay, paint, ceramics, watercolor and oil pastels and when the class is finished, each student will have their own international portfolio of art to take home with them.  We will explore art from Brazil, Japan, Russia, France, India, Australia and more. (for those that have already taken Art Around the World 1, this class will feature 9 different projects and countries)

Bolly Fusion Dance Class for Kids

An active, energetic, and diverse Bollywood Dance class that will focus on merging many different styles of dance into one, while encouraging students to build their confidence levels. Students will be exposed to Indian Classical Dance, Folk Dance, Bhangra, and Bollywood through choreographed dance pieces. Students will learn specific technique associated with each of these dance styles, including but not limited to what the hand gestures and steps are called, the meaning behind each gesture, and how to string it together in a fluid motion. Lessons will focus on understanding rhythm and how to hear the beats within each song.

Students will learn the true art of performance, with lessons on stage presence, facial expressions, and expressing emotions through dance! Students will build their knowledge on how to weave all the different forms of dance to create a choreographed piece. In addition, through BollyFusion dance classes, students will learn character traits like responsibility, passion, and hard work, while learning vibrant and entertaining dances.

Learn chess with Pacific Chess Academy!  The program is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to overcome obstacles, think strategically, and stay focused.  Specifically designed for young players with various levels (including beginners), the course offers video lessons, easy-to-follow instructions, individual recommendations and preparation for chess tournaments.  The use of chess teaching software makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! The class is offered to ALL GRADES. The necessary equipment for lessons (boards & pieces, clocks, demo tools) is provided.

The use of the modern technology (projectors, iPad, teaching software) makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! The class is offered to grades K-5. All necessary equipment (boards and pieces, clocks, demo tools) provided. Participants receive certificates and trophies at the end of the school year. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a Chess Champion, this class is for students at all ability levels.

Contemporary Dance for Kids

Contemporary as a dance style is a fusion of ballet, jazz, funk, and modern dance styles.  Contemporary dance encourages natural, spontaneous movement and focuses on self-expression, awareness of space and body movement, use of body weight, efficiency of muscle use, safe body alignment and strong use of Modern Dance technique. Classes start with a comprehensive warm-up focusing on improving flexibility, extension, core strength, and balance and gradually build up to contemporary steps and combinations that will consist of abstract movements combining modern and classical ballet elements. Students will learn how to express a wide range of emotions through their dance based on musical interpretation and individual style and using the contemporary dance form as a platform for creative self-expression. Classes emphasize technique, fundamentals and a familiarization of the dance vocabulary.  

Recommended Dress - Students must be able to move and stretch fully.  Footless tights, leggings, leotards, fitted dance shorts, fitted tops, t-shirts and athletic pants are ideal.  Medium or long hair pulled away from face in pony-tail, braid, or bun. No shoes, bare-feet.

Creative Writing for Primary Students - Think Outside the Box

Does your child love to write and use their imagination to come up with creative stories? Then this is the class for them! Through several different writing activities, we will explore possible ways to think outside of the box and get truly original ideas on paper! We'll experiment with character and plot development in ways that are unique and new from Painted Paper Stories to Squiggle Stories to What If/Prediction Stories and so much more! I can't wait to see what we come up with! This course is constantly changing, so whether your child has taken it before or is a new attendee, they are welcome to join in on the fun for a new and unique experience each time!

Energy is essential to almost everything we do, from the lights in our homes and classrooms to the gasoline that fuels our cars. Introduce your students to the world of energy in all of it’s amazing forms. This unit explores many sources of energy from wind to solar power to biofuel and fossil fuel. Students will define terms like renewable, landfill, greenhouse effect and generator and build moving models of just some of the awesome ways we power our world.

Reading is a skill and through reading, we can learn about anything and everything. The better you understand what you read, the better you will do in school, in your job, and in your life.  Students will read Fiction, Nonfiction and Informational text types to enhance their comprehension abilities and process content using higher level thinking. Students will work in peer discussion groups learning and perfecting skills in: identifying the main idea and supporting details, sequencing, relating experiences in a text with real-life experiences and events, asking meaningful questions in order to understand text, and answer questions about a text.  Together we will perfect comprehension skills in a dynamic collaborative environment while having fun and building confidence and motivation through reading.

Writing Through the Genres - Writing with an Impact

Writing with impact is one of the greatest gifts a student can posses. But learning to write effectively is challenging and takes practice. In the Writing Through the Genres course, students will learn how to develop a powerful essay as they development their informational writing skills. This session will include, how to research using reliable sources, using nonfiction readings to paraphrase material, and the format for informational (essay) writing. We will also focus on the technical parts of writing such as sentence form and grammar. This course changes session to session and year to year.

Participants will:

  1. Engage in learning activities that give them positive their confidence with writing;

  2. Develop strong grammatical skills

  3. Utilize technology to self-publish their works

  4. Become equipped with the tools to organize his or her ideas

  5. Edit his/her own work.
